I was wondering if any one could help me I've been eyeing a play centre for my 2 gerbils which I found on ebay. But I'm horrified by the price, and was wondering if anyone knew of a place to get this item cheaper? Or recommend anything else thats similar? Heres the link to see it: cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7728636845&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:ITI'm from the UK so I'd prefer places from UK, but if they ship then thats fine too.

That 'cage' goes for betwen £50 and £60 normally. I have seen it in a local shop and it's a lovely size BUT with all the shelves being plastic wouldn't be asuitable gerbil home. Also I think gerbils would escape. As a play area under supervision I imagine it would be great fun though.

I made my own Play Pen for my gerbisl from a rabbit/guinea pig cage. These pictures are a bit old, i've added things and removed things. So it's different all the time for them. I'll give each tank up to an hour in it soemtimes. I actually got the cage for free from a neighbour, so it really worked out. I have to supervise them in there, some of my smaller gerbils can jump up to the bars and squish themselves through, it's kind of funny to watch.

hehe, this is my gerbies playground.... it's like one big sand bath! ;D lol that is VERY cool! Can they climb out? It looks like way to much fun. I keep a small tank filled with Sand Bath, that I toss gerbils into every week. There are 2 dishes in the Play pen, one with Sand Bath, the other Dust bath.

That IS a wonderful playground! I love the little holes that look like burrows! I`m not sure, but perhaps looking on eBay or garden centres for one of those moulded pond liners (a cheapish one) and then modifying this with making papier mache mixed in a bucket and then moulded into mounds (using plates and dishes to make the moulds until they set) and then placing these onto the pond mould, setting those perhaps with more papier mache to the surface? and then finding something to coat the whole thing over and pour a mix of bird/chinchilla sand over this in multiple layers until this sets and then once that`s done, fill with loose sand! I`ve no idea if this is how the original playpen was made, but it`s something that could be done with a little imagination! You could even start with the base of a large duna style guinea pig cage and build it into one of those? Inside the base? It would then be a permanent feature! Then you could clip the perspex lid over the whole thing!

hehe thank you! ;D yeah, they can climb out, but oddly enough, they've never really tried to escape i sometimes let them jump onto this small table(from the play area), but apart form that, they've never tried to jump onto the floor or anything, which i guess is a good thing! ;D . the only down side of it, is that you ususally get sand everywhere, but seeing as the gerbil room floor is covered with woodshavings anyway, it doesn't really make a difference! ;D lol and sounds like you've got quite an idea forming there max! ;D it seems excellent! i'll have to try it one day! ;D
