When I first got my new boys a few months ago I obviously bought them a wheel which I tried to individually introduce to both of them in their play area. Loki took to it instantly and has forever since been a wheel addict, in there all the time running as fast as he can as much as he can but Genji never had any interest and didn't even want to sit in there when I put in a few treats. When I first left it in the tank topper I was a little worried as he used to chase Genji away if he approached it, and he even at one point wanted to sleep in there (managed to stop him). Today however I was so shocked and overjoyed that I saw Genji plodding around the wheel taking it slow but still in there! I rewarded him and Loki who was patiently sitting by the wheel not making any attempt to scare his brother off. After a couple of hours of watching them take in turns jumping in and running around I just had to share how happy I am that they are both now getting use out of the wheel and not just the one! Hurray!! Has anyone else had a gerbil that took no interest in the wheel at all suddenly start using it?

Kate is our marathon wheel running, while Caroline is rarely on it and seems content to make just a few hop jogs before stopping. However, every once in a great while I catch Caroline in the wheel doing some serious running. I don't know why but it always makes me excited - I'm like "Go Caroline, keep it up!"

Our Pepper is a wheel addict, like your Loki and Ninestone's Kate.
Pepper took to the wheel (silent spinner) pretty quickly, giving it a good run. He quickly learned to get it spinning ridiculously fast, and it's funny, but I think now it's too fast for him, as he rarely stays in it for more than a second at a time... he jumps in, gets it spinning, then jumps out. A couple seconds later he jumps in, runs for a second, jumps out. Jumps in, runs for a second, jumps out over and over and over, getting the wheel spinning faster each time (the silent spinners spin really well, so it spins for a long time after he's done). lol
When he jumps out, he stands by it, looking out of the cage as if he's looking at us and saying, Look how fast it's goin'! Well, that aint nothin'! *jumps in and rev's it up some more*.
He gets so excited about it quite often, and will spin the wheel, jump out, race down the ramp to the tank, race back up, leap into the wheel, spin it, leap out, over and over, for 10-15 minutes at a time.
Joey, on the other hand, has never so much as stood in the wheel. He checks it out, but has never used it that I know of.
Just last night I put in a 2nd wheel (metal mesh-type wheel, larger than the silent spinner) to see if maybe Joey would use it, no takers on it so far (by either gerbils).

I used to use silent spinners because of well the name says it all lol and it's nice thick plastic that they can't chew however as soon as they grow slightly it becomes obviously too small for gerbils and I worry about them hurting their spine while running in it so I went for a different one this time. I really wish they did it an inch and a half larger

Agreed. I have two of the biggest silent spinners, and one wire mesh wheel that is quite a bit louder. I tried the mesh one, but it's just so loud...
