Hi guys, so I have a 10 month old gerbil and recently he's been cleaning his mouth/face a lot of times. I really do think his tooth broke and maybe he keeps messing with it. Also he lost soooo much weight recently and he's not as active as before, all he does is sleep. I gave him oatmeal and a little bit of cheese since those are his favorite snacks. But I don't know what else to do since he doesn't eat his regular meal. Maybe it has to do with the weather change, I honestly don't know. Has anybody ever experienced this?

Trip to the vets asap - any sudden weight loss should indicate a trip to the vets.
And I would imagine a gerbil loosing weight AND pawing at his face is in some kind of discomfort. Whether it's a tooth-related problem or he has something stuck in his mouth, etc - it is bad enough to stop him eating.
This doesn't sound like it will remedy itself - you need to have a professional take a look.
Let us know what they say.

It may be a tooth problem, either way its probably going to involve a trip to a small animal vet.

I went to the vet and he tooth is broken but it will grow back and he's been eating more each and everyday. The vet said nothing serious but i should comeback in two weeks for an update. Thanks for your help !
