I got two Wodent Wheels for my gerbils for Christmas. The dominant one, Brad, quickly explored it, had a little trouble getting in, but mastered it in no time. The submissive one, Nick, was more tentative. After a long time, he poked his head in and tried to climb in. When the wheel moved, he ran away. Awhile later, he was back and he got in and took a few steps. Now, he is actually running in it.
They both seem to love the wheels.

Glad they enjoyed their present! Some gerbils take some time to figure out what the wheel is for, but most get the hang of it - (although there are a few who insist on using it as a toilet or nesting spot). --------------------------------------------------------------------- Arwen (F) and Eowyn (F) 11/12/2011 - 20 gallon with 20 gallon topper Goldberry (F) 11/12/2011 - 20 gallon with 20 gallon topper

One problem - the gerbils love the wodent wheels, but I don't. They are very noisy. So, I guess they will have to enjoy them during the day for the most part.
Oh well.

First there was the noise. Now, there is another problem. My gerbils are chewing the plastic. They don't do that with the silent spinner. This is becoming a disappointment.

Yes, I debated getting a Wodent Wheel for my gerbils, as they are so safe, but the little entry holes are just perfect for chewing, aren't they?

Is the Wodent wheel made of a softer plastic than the Silent Spinner? I've noticed that gerbils will abstain from chewing really hard plastics like polystyrene or polycarbonate, but will readily chew softer plastics like PVC and polypropylene. Obviously, you have other stuff for them to chew, but perhaps you can offer them a variety of different textures to distract them from chewing the wheel. Try thin cardboard, really thick cardboard (fabric or carpet rolls), softwood (kiln dried pine), and hardwood (sycamore, birch, apple). --------------------------------------------------------------------- Arwen (F) and Eowyn (F) 11/12/2011 - 20 gallon with 20 gallon topper Goldberry (F) 11/12/2011 - 20 gallon with 20 gallon topper

They are made of softer plastic and are so perfect for chewing that nothing distracts the gerbils from doing so. I think the silent spinner is the best. I've had to remove the Wodent Wheel and only let them run on it when I'm around and can intervene when chewing starts.
Happy New Year.
