I have heard lots of you say that ppl should not get their gerbils plastic things because they chew it and its indigestable. I will try not to get my future gerbils any plastic things but their is one problem. I bought a plastic pet igloo for them and I was wondering if that was allright. My last gerbils chewed on it(not the same one) and seemed fine. Is it dangerous? Thanks for the help!! -Samantha- P.S, heres a pic of the pet igloo

the igloos are great...for rats. The problem with plastic is that if it does stick inside the gerbil it cannot be removed and it is a very painful way to die. Is it worth the risk?

it does look very cute, but as mermum said, you would be taking a risk. at my old school, there were gerbils, and one of them managed to scrape his eye on a piece of sharp and chewed plastic. it really didn't look very comfortable for him so i always get wooden toys

I had that too. It *is* very cute, and it would be great for other animals. My gerbils had one and it was gone in a week. Blah.

Use it as a toy in a playpen since you all ready own it. That's where all my plastic toys go. They are only in there when I'm supervising them, and theres so much to do, little chewing goes on.
I find that kind of soft plastic to be irrisistable for gerbils.
