I don't know if my two pups have resperitory infection or not and was wondering if anyone cold tell me if I shoudl treat them with ornacycline or not...They click their teeth together every time I take them out and also, when they fall asleep on my hand, they start to twitch around Alot. They are about 11 days old and have a thin coat of fur on them. Thanks, PiffTheGerbL

How can you be sure it is their teeth they are clicking together ? If they are making a clicking sound,it does sound like a R.I.,and,should be treated accordingly,I'm afraid I can't comment on ornacycline,as I've never used it,check it's suitability for pups of this age before you use it.

I'm treating 4 of my 6 pups with Ornacycline right now. It's sorta difficult! One pup had to go on kitten milk as a suppliment too! my litter is 18 days old, and the pup on kitten milk (named "Mr. Righty Charlie") sleeps a lot too! Mr. looks flat... but so far the milk and the Ornacycline is doing him well. One of his sisters stopped clicking while on it. I just mix it up every other day, and give them as many drops as they'll take (but at least 5) two or three times a day.
Let me know how it goes! This is your 1st litter? (it's my 1st!)

Yes, this is my first litter but I only have two pups and they're two weeks old today ;DHow much of a tablet of the ornacycline should I give them? How much water should I mix it in? Thanks, [glow=red,2,300]PiffTheGerbL[/glow]

I just ploped the tab into slightly warm water. (a little more than 8oz) I guess you could break the tab in half and put it in about 4 to 6oz of water. A local vet said I should dilute it a little since they're young... and yours are a little younger than mine. If mom has toys in the cage and likes to spend time with them, I'd reccomend taking them all out so that she spends more time with her pups, since they're sick. She'll likely nurse them a little more often, and that will help them out because mothers milk has lots of goodies in it to help babies. And the sad news... Mr. Righty Charlie died last night. Poor little guy! He was still in the nest with his siblings and his dad, but he had died. But you only have 2 pups, so mom should be able to handle that easily. Have you sexed them yet?

Yes I have sexed them, Here are some pictures- This one is a boy: This is the girl: And these are the parents: Piff(Honey Cream) and Puff(Spotted black) The thing is, if I take out some of the toys that keep Puff occupied, she goes nuts and spends up to a half-hour scratching at the sides of the cage and chewing on the bars. Piff is weird and tries to nurse them himself :Plol, but I will start the babies on antibiotics right away! ;D

Ritzie freaks out too! But you can always give her a wheel or her favorite thing while you're giving the pups their drops. What kinds of things do they have as toys? I still give my cardboard and chew sticks, Ritz just isn't allowed to have her wheel all the time. Mom's are weird sometimes, aren't they? Now 2 of my pups have died, but I think the 2nd one was because we had a propane leak in the house, and the piolet is in my room! It was terrible! However, the other pups that were clicking have improved a LOT. The drops are helping them out, and they can almost breathe normal now! Good luck, and keep us updated!

HA HA! Maybe it'll help if you take them out a lot just to say hi to them. Are the parents good about you taking their babies?

That's kinda funny actually! Keebler is the protective one in the family! If he's next to the nest when I try to pick up a pup, he'll grab on to my ring with his mouth and just hang there. Sometimes it's hard to make him let go! He doesn't bite skin though, he knows he's not supposed to do that.
So your babies sound any better yet? It only took 2 days for one of my gerbs to clear up. Another one is still clicking though.

Babys are doin better, but still clicking a bit. They will be opening their eyes soon so I'll post pics when there open And above to your Q ritzie, Puff has toys like...a small second cage that has a potty and chewables. So I took that out and now i think she spends more time with the babys! [glow=red,2,300]PiffTheGerbL[/glow]

I took mine off when they started breathing normal, but now some are clicking again. (and all 3 boys died...) So maybe try to keep them on until the COMPLETELY stop clicking...?
