I introduced my female gerbil (simon) and three female pups (5wks) to my two other females (Jess 10wks and Spoc 14wks). Spoc has attacked Simon and she has a wound on her and blood and bald patches on her tail. She also seems to have lost some weight. I've separated her from the others putting her in with one of the pups to keep her company. Spoc and Jess have accepted all the pups and they're living fine together, it's just Simon they don't seem to like. should I take Simon to see a vet?

If she seems ill or the wound seems infected see a vet. If not just keep her warm and fed and she dhould be fine. Adult feamles are very hard to intro I'm afraid, even female pups can be difficult

yeah... I've had a lot of luck, I've never had any serious fighting before and I've moved them around tanks a lot! I've only had more than 2 gerbils since december (they turned out to not be 2 boys and they had babies) now I've got eleven and I love them to bits... I've introduced pups to the others with success including the females... I just thought that since Simon was their mother they'd get along without fighting too much. But I think that her and the older two gerbils (10 and 14wks) are having a power struggle and the younger gerbils seem to be winning. She doesn't seem ill in her behaviour, just a bit skinny. I don't think the wounds infected but I'll keep an eye on it.
