Although so far, the gerbils do not have fleas, I've checked, I have a question. I have three cats whom I powder with Sevin as one of the cats was a feral cat and it's hard as heck to keep him in the house. So I wonder about the gerbils... has anyone used this on the gerbils before? It's safe for cats and dogs, but I wasn't sure if the smaller animals could use it or not.
One thing that made me think about it, the gerbils scratch a lot, but there's no fleas on them nor any signs of fleas. Is that normal behavior? Scratching?

It is very un-likely for your gerbils to catch fleas from your cats, also,I would not use a dog/cat preparation on gerbils either.I agree completely with Pixytwinkle about this.

Thank you both, VERY helpful. I didn't think of the bedding... I only use Aspen and playsand (that I bake before using).... well, all that cardboard and shredded paper too, LOL. Maybe I should try corn cob?

It is normal for gerbils to scratch. If you don't see bald, red or irritated skin, then they should be fine.
I also would not use any flea prevention or medication on your gerbils unless you contact a vet prior to using it.

Aspen is fine as litter/bedding for gerbils.I've used it for mine in the past with no problems. It is very expensive here to buy,my supplier has to buy it in specially for me,so,I've stopped using it. A gerbil can become allergic to anything though, but as Sweetie has already said,if they are having an allergic reaction to something, they will have other symptoms.
