small (clean and no staples)paper bags are a lot of fun for gerbils to play with and chew up-I just gave my Adam and Serena one each and they are having a grand time shredding them, the down side is that they don't last long but it's fun to watch what they do with them. I wish I knew about them many years ago as I was always trying to find things for my gerbils to keep busy with.

Paper things don't last long with ours. They don't chew it, they end up shredding it by ripping chucks off at a time. Has to be card or wood for them to chew.

Yeah, mine rip it not chew, but they do seem to like it as bedding.

They are funny when taking it to the bed and end up standing on the paper, ending up a bit confused as to why they can't move with it.

Love this idea!! I usually have only given them paper towel and toilet paper rolls but I bet they would like this!

Those cardboard cup holders from McDonalds etc. are my favourite 'free' gerbil toy - I actually have a stash waiting to be shredded!

Egg boxes work well, more so with sunflower seeds inside.

Love the paper bag suggestion. Will have to give that a try. Always looking for new ideas for these little guys. I did find some small divider cardboard boxes (the ones that the packaged gravy mixes etc. come in at the grocery store. I put it in on the topper shelf with a little bedding and a couple of willow sticks for a new place for them to have fun.
