one of my gerbils has a small hairless patch on his front paw. ive never seen anything like it before, so im not sure why. any ideas?

It may have been scratched off by himself or a cagemate or it might just be an allergy. Doesn't sound like anything to be alarmed about though, unless it bleeds or pusses. Just leave it be is my advice

nothing seems to have changed since i started this post. its not getting worse, but its not getting better. oh well. we'll see what happens in the next little while. thanks for your input!

The only thing I can add to this would be to take him to the vet and have it scraped for dermal mites (the ones that cause mange in dogs) Any animal can get them, and they can cause hairless patches. Other causes could be a fungal infection like ringworm, or just overgrooming. If it isn't bothering him, I wouldn't be too concerned. If you took him to the vet and he was diagnosed with mites, they may be able to give him oral or injectible meds to treat the problem, and if it was fungal, you could get a topical cream. Without a pic I really caouldn't give you any more advice... Hope this helps!

thanks for your advice. unforinatly, im kinda pressed for time right now, so i wont take him to the vet unless it gets worse. also i dont even know of a gerbil vet around here, because ive never really needed one before. so i might look one up, for future referance, or if this thing gets worse.
