I don't think gerbils would be able to chew through it. I know someone on youtube has it, and so far they haven't mentioned anything about the gerbils chewing it. The interior dimensions for the small one are: 75 x 55 x 43.5 cm, so I would say that is okay for 2 gerbils (my 2 gerbils live in an extra large gerbilarium, which is a little bit smaller than that, and I wouldn't house them in anything smaller).

You may get chewing on the side holes over time - and bedding may fly out of there at any time. Perhaps see how they get on with it and put wood up the sides if you are worried.
Some of my gerbils chew plastic like there is no tomorrow and would destroy the sides just for fun - and it's very noisy at night. However, I have other gerbils who couldn't care less about chewing their tank or anything too hard - so you might be in luck...
It certainly looks lighter than my glass tanks!
