Ritzie- I notice you had a picture of a diagonal split tank with a wire tank lid as a divider. Where did you find this lid? I've never seen anything like it at Petsmart or Petco.

I like the image shared here of Permanent Split cage. It is very advance and very comfortable for them. In this cage all facilities available. Thank you for starting this topic here.

Sadly a lot of the photos here have gone now, but there's plenty of info out there on how to make splits. I think the more interesting (and harder to find?) info, is how do the gerbils get on in these permanent splits? So far my boys have been perm split for 2 months, they seem to get on well with the limited contact through the 1/2" mesh, and seem quite happy and active . This (atm) is in 120x50x50 cm tank (300 lts, 66 imp. gall, 79 US gall). If anyone else here has done perm. split intros, please report how they did/are doing here, along with how long they were/are in the split, and what size cage it is/was. (hmm, I wonder if I should start a new thread about this....) [edit] Here is my thread about permanent splits (talking about the gerbils, not cage construction).

AndreaS15, unfortunately I couldn't see your photo.
twisellemegdonna, my 40 gallon breeder tank (commercial not DIY) has a lot of silicone adhesive holding it together. The gerbils leave it alone. I think the general consensus is that silicone is fine to use. So if you were to build your own tank, I would recommend using silicone.

AndreaS15 hasn't been online in ~13 yrs and twisellemegdonna posted over 13yrs ago! Lol, you need to check the posting dates . Perhaps it's my own fault for posting here that encouraged your post, but I was trying to revive discussion on how the gerbils themselves got on, which a few people in the past did. Anyhow, as I mentioned in my previous post I started a new thread discussing that. And seeing as all bar one (flibbletigibbet) of the previous contributors haven't been online in years I'm going to lock this thread now. If you wish to start a new thread about split cages, go for it .
