I was just wondering, is it OK to give my 3 little girl gerbies a 'Felix 12 pack of pouches' box for them to chew? I was just wondering because the writing may be toxic. Thanks Phoebe x

I give mine all kinds of cardboard to chew and have never had a problem. I don't usually give them the shiny ones though.

I give my cardboard boxes also to my gerbils. They are good paper shredders! Ink from newspapers, etc. can be toxic.

I cut large cardboard boxes up for my gerbils. ANY kind of cardboard is fine, just make sure it isnt wet have has any kind of adhesive or platic on it.

I would disagree two types to avoid 1) waxed boxes such as those frozen food comes in 2) any box that has held cleaning products or other possibly toxic stuff other than that most card is fine

True, it is best to avoid those boxes Doomgerbiluk mentioned!

Also avoid egg cartons and boxes that have held field fruits such as strawberries, both can carry bacteria such as Salmonella and E. coli.

Okay, sorry if I sound harsh in this next post, but it has been on my mind for awhile. Phobe: You have created 2 or 3 topics about the EXACT same thing - cardboard. That really isn't nessesary because people usually look in all the forums to answer people's questions. AND, if people would use the search feature at the top of the page, I wouldn't be posting this right now. For newer members that don't know what topics have already been discussed, please refer to "Ryan's Rules of Engagement" (hehe) Here they are:
Step 1. Use the search feature to look for already discussed topics. If that doesn't answer your question, refer to step 2.
Step 2. Ask your question on that same topic as Step 1 that is related to your question but did not answer it specificly.
Step 3. If there are no topics on the issue, or the issue is a problem with one of your gerbils and you need direct advice, start your own topic. (1 topic please, not multiple in different forums)
Thanks.

my guinea pig broke out in a rash and lost a load of hair from some ziplock bag boxes we gave him... I try and avoid the ones with lots of inks now... but that was a guinea...

I avoid large glue beads on boxes, and and waxy ones, and cleaning supply ones. My gerbils LOVE cereal boxes, and we go through a LOT of cereal! They also love soda can boxes
