so, my first gerb, ringo, was a people watcher. he'd watch me play video games, watch me play guitar, etc. he'd just perch there and observe. observing and wheel running were his favorite pastimes. so. naturally. i got him a huge ass wheel. and he looooooved it. until i went to bed, at which point he jammed it by shoving bedding underneath, climbed on top of it, and chewed through his lid (which had plastic pieces on it -_- never made that mistake again). when i woke up that morning, he was there. just sitting there, on top of the wheel, like 80% of his body outside the tank, watching me. i had to dig through layers and layers of bedding to find the piece he'd chewed off so i could reattach it. i had no idea how long the hole had been there or how long he'd been watching me. has anyone else ever had their gerbils watch them, like we're their pets..

That's so funny that he just sat there. Mine like to listen to music, which isn't quite the same thing but similar. They do watch each other though, mostly my older one sits in the house and watches the younger ones.

Ringo sounds like he was an awesome gerbil!
One of our girls, Cherry Bomb, used to love watching us from her topper. She would just sit there for hours, silently staring and judging us. Sometimes it was quite unnerving! She was a very friendly gerbil though, so I think she may have just wanted attention. We thought about making little score cards for her so she could rate us on a scale of 1 to 10.
Another time, I walked into the room and Cherry was waiting with her two front paws and face pressed against the plastic of the cage, tongue sticking out and pulling a face. She wasn't moving or digging,it looked like she had been waiting there like that just to mess with us when we entered the room!
We've also had some gerbils who liked certain music and one of our robo hamsters was really into The Apprentice, she would come out to watch like clockwork every week as soon as she heard the theme music.

My girls love to people watch. They always perk up and take interest in anything happening near their tank. They also like it when you talk to them, but aren't super fonds of pets yet (I'm working on it with them still)

Mine love watching the TV, when ever we're watching a film or series they come out and sit by the edge of the tank and stare at the telly.
That is until a bird comes of screen and then they run for cover. Needless to say we no longer watch nature documentaries in the living room anymore...
Also Pikachu watched me for every second of the two days it took me to build their topper. It was almost like she knew what I was making was for her (maybe because the sawdust from cutting and drilling the wood smelled similar to their substrate?)
