I was getting my gerbil [Dixie] out one day and the lid fell on the back part of her tail! I was home alone and started freaking out because I promised myself I wouldn't do it. and called my mom in hysterics. there was a smear of blood on the tank and I put her back immediately. when my mom got home she took me to the pet tore to buy carefresh so she would have soft bedding instead of shavings. the next day the bare bone fell off and the only difference is her tail is a bit shorter. she was skittish for a couple days though. but I'm just happy that it didn't get infected and I didn't have to have it amputated, that it fell off the natural way.
The End!

Interesting story~ That sounds like a pretty scary experience as a gerbil owner to go thru. And Dixie is a cute name for a gerbil omg

Once I had a gerbil who's tail got stuck on a toy and she got scared and chewed the end of her tail off!! We put peroxide on her tail to prevent an infection. It happened when she was about 10 months old and she lived to be six years old!! She definitely earned her name: Lucky!!
