I have never heard chinchilla used as a color in itself, but the chm gene creates the colorpoint effect (as shown on your Burmese) and it is called the chinchilla medium. Other than that I am not sure. Hopefully someone can clarify further?

Thankyou. I did wonder if chinchila was just a gene If its not a colour he looks a very light grey with white on is there a grey colour or could it be some other name.

Chinchilla is not a gerbil color. Both Gray Agouti and Colorpoint Agouti resemble the Chinchilla coloration in other species.

To post a picture you have to use a third-party host like Photobucket or Facebook and then use the direct link or URL to insert it using the photo icon displayed at the top of a full reply post (not the quick reply boxes at the bottom of a thread).
Use the HELP option under the main heading at the top of the forum and follow the steps given - it is really simple once you have done it a few times.
Basically get the direct URL of the image - click the picture icon and paste the URL into the space provided. 3 easy steps.
If it is lighter than the Grey Agouti it could be one of many other agouti colourings including light grey agouti, colourpoint (cp) grey agouti, light cp (lcp) grey agouti, cp agouti and lcp agouti - also spotting can lighten the colour too. Assuming it IS an agouti of course - other colours can be grey too.
Can't wait to see the images though to help you out here - and try to get some that show them from the side (so we can see their belly 'height') and their tail could be quite useful too - agoutis usually have a high chevron on their tail (it is lighter at the body end, then the chevron changes it abruptly to darker on the bottom half of the tail). Also, if yours are NOT spotted - please get a picture that shows the toenail colour too - as this can be important in colour determination. If they ARE spotted - all their toenails will be clear so it is less helpful colours-wise.

I think the alt is just the text that goes with the image - It isn't generally seen on the forum anyway. You may not even need to add anything - but I always do anyway...
