Please note, we found the gerbil and he is back in his cage, healthy and alive!
My gerbils used to live in a 20 gallon aquarium with a diy lid that was very sturdy. We had a hole cut out of it in the corner so that way I could hook my water bottle to the side of the cage. Next to the water bottle I have a bendy bridge that the gerbils could hide under. One day we were driving my grandmother to the airport so that way she could fly home because she had just come to visit us. When we got home I wanted to play with the gerbils, aka have a taming session so I took the lid of their cage and Pepper-Corn, one of my gerbils came out and starting acting very strangely. I ignored his behavior and thought that maybe he was just a little frightened at my sudden appearance. My other gerbil Pineapple did not come out though. I looked in all their houses and he was not there. I looked in their bedding nest and he was not there. I got a little frighted so I gently began to move their bedding around to look for him and he was not there! I tried to stay calm and ran to get my mom and my sister to help but they were both in the shower because it was night time, so I began to look for him myself. I looked for about ten minutes before they got out of the shower and then came to help me. We looked for about three hours and couldn't find him anywhere. So we put ten sunflower seeds on a paper plate in each room of our house. We even put them down stairs (their cage is upstairs). We also shut all the doors so he couldn't move from room to room. Poor Pepper-corn was a nervous wreck! The next morning my mom woke up before me and went to see where the sunflower seeds where missing. The only place that any seeds where missing was the office. My mom heard some scratching sounds underneath a filing cabinet so she went and woke me up and we caught him and put him back in his cage, and sat something large and heavy over the water bottle.
