So I saw a gerbil in the pet store I had never seen, a BEW. Or at least I think so. Totally white fur with black eyes. His tail had dark skin pigment, but not fur pigment. His nails were clear. Does that sound like a BEW?

Yes it does.
BEW is the term given to a group of colours - not a single genetic notation - so if you saw a gerbil that looks like you describe it could be any number of actual colours.
It will probably be some kind of colourpoint ee gerbil though, with A* gerbils generally being paler - but with spotting and the dilute gene around now - there could be more BEW options out there.
They are a lovely looking gerbil.

He was a very cute guy, with a golden agouti cagemate. I may pick him up tomorrow if he is still there. I have a lone male here and though I was going to introduce pups, I'm worried they may all be female. The last litter had one male, and the litter before also only had one male.
