hey everybody! I have a litter that's two weeks old now. the day they were born I say that one baby had been thrown out the nest, he was smaller than the others. I kept putting him back in the nest and eventually the mother gave him milk. but now he's still smaller than the others and his tail is misformed.(his tail is slant,I hope this is the wright word ) when I pick him up he keeps falling over.. can I do something about it? should I see a vet? could it cause any troubles for him later on? xEvelienx

This condition is caused by a condition similar (as it was described to me) to spina bifida. I have two gerbils so affected. One has a 'Z' shaped tail, the other has virtually no tail, we call him Bobtail. There are internal deformities which means females cannot give birth naturally. That said they make great pets. Your gerbil sounds very ill and runty. Whether this is due the deformity or other issues I wouldn't know but I would treat him a any other runt and be aware his weakness reduces his chances of surviving. You can supplement him with lactol or KRM. Other than that it is up to his mum. Good luck.

this little one now is doing fine I think. He's just a bit smaller than the others (and his tail) but on the other hand he already has his teeth and the others don't I just hope he's going to be fine. xEvelienx
