This thread might be totally boring, but I wanted to share how I got my gerbs. A few moths ago, my older lilac gerbil, Nicky, got very sick. She was fine one day then the next she could barely walk. At the time, it was summer but I was volunteering as some summer camp-like thing, so I didn't have much time to care for her. After a few days she had a horrible seizure and died. The funny thing is, she waited until right when I got home to die so I could be with her. Her sister, Pipsqueak, was left alone. I moved her up to my room and she got plenty of attention, but then she started to get sick with the same thing Nicky died of. She held on a little longer, I think. She probably had a series of strokes. She forgot how to use the water bottle and just slept all day. She couldn't even prop herself up enough to eat. I was free during that time and I would give her bread soaked in water every so often to keep her hydrated and with some food in her belly. One day she was able to stand and run and act normal and I thought she would make a full recovery, but I went downstairs and I came back up and she was dead.
I waited a few weeks and then I started calling around for gerbils. There were a few around where I live, but they weren't what I was looking for. One day after swimming, I went to a pet store (they were close to the pool) and looked for the gerbils. They were out, so I looked at another a little farther away. They had a pair of females roughly a few months old, but they weren't litter-mates and they lived alone. One was black and one was slate. One had been in the pet store for a long time. one had her sister adopted the day before but was left behind. I just couldn't leave them, so I made the decision to bond them. The black one is named Poppy and the slate is Eowyn. They only took a few days before I introduced them and they took to each other like they were old friends. Really, it's like they're sisters. Of course, there was a bit of aggressiveness, but now they are good friends. I hope you enjoyed this story of how I got my gerbils!
