Hi,
My Furrbie recently has upper teeth problems. Apparently, it grew too long and started to bend inwards. I didnt take notice till recently.
He started to loose some weight and kept rubbing his cheeks.
I checked his mouth saw found the upper teeth shakey....It has broken off.
I brought him to the vet immediately. The vet snipped off the upper teeth since it's broken n hanging......Furrbie's lucky the teeth only chipped... the difference is that if the teeth fell with the roots, thats the end of it..... which means, no more teeth.
thankfully the roots are still intact and un harmed, the teeth will grow out.
Furrbie can't eat on his own and has to be feed semi-solid food like a human baby. the vet gave him a bottle of small mammals powdered food mix. I have to mic 5cc with water and feed him at least 6 times a day and 3ml each time, using a syringe.....
It was quite a feat......reminds the time when I had my babies!
Besides supplementing with wat the vet gave, I mixed some cooked oats into the powdered food mix. I went to the supermart and got a baby egg custard as Furrnie's dessert.
I fed him an average of 6-8 times a day for a week. I added calcium supplements into the drinking water, which in my opinion, helped his recovery.
I am thankful that Furrbie is such a lovely boy that he doesn't struggle when I syringe fed him. I takes about 5 mins to feed and clean his face up. His teeth starts to grow out in 4 days...
It's been a week and I've stopped feeding him..... he's managing on him own now.....Imagine wat joy I felt when I saw him cracking open a seed!
So, here's my story and experience.
U should check ur rodents teeth at least once a month and make sure it's not over grown..... Provide lots of stuff for them to trim and graw...... I have wooden blocks and branches for my gerbs.
