I have just noticed my black gerbil is looking a bit grey around the ears. I presume this is the first sign of old age. Just wondered if it was anything to worry about and how long old age will take to set in. He is really young, only two and a half.

Two and a half is actually an older gerbil. Suposably 2 is. Alot of my gerbils who are over a year have white hairs, it's very noticable on my black who's only a year an a couple months old, while not so much on her spotted sisters.

My Ollie, who's black, is sprinkled with white and getting whiter all the time. He won't be two until next month, so he's not really old. I think it's rather common for black gerbils to get white hairs scattered in their coats as they age.

Yeah, my black gerbil is going grey, too. He's two years and four months. What's even cuter is that he's going a little bald on the back of his ears. Male-pattern baldness! teeheehee

Our big agouti male "Corky" just turned 3 on Feb2. He has been sleeping most of the time lately and gets up mainly to eat and drink and see what he can beg. We haven't really noticed any "graying". He still looks pretty much the same as he always has. Keith & Luana Green Mt. Gerbils
