My gerbils are not well, they have upset tummies but not serious diarrhoea, one is fine with this and is moving about, happy. the other is very sleepy and inactive. Their droppings are soft, wet and smelly. could anyone advise?

Firstly don't give them any fresh food i.e fruit and veg and I would strongly recommend you get them to a vet to get treated.

they don't seem to be that ill, their eyes are still bright but their coat is starting to go a bit sticky today. I haven't given them any fresh food for a week or so, i thought it might of been the dry food so i bought a special gerbil mix but that hasn't helped.

I should have asked this before but how old are they and how long have you had them?
You may want to keep an eye on them but just keep in mind that any case of diarrhoea could be potentially serious and if you do notice any deterioration in their condition I would recommend a visit to the vets.

I just wanted some advice because i kept gerbils for a long time and never had this problem. I think if it doesn't clear up a trip to the vet might be in order.

I think a trip to the vet is needed now in this case- one of them sounds like he / she might have succumb pretty badly to diarrhoea.

I think i've discovered stress might have something to do with it! I just found my cat attached to the side of the gerbil tank. My cat's worked out how to open the door to the room with they are kept in .He seems to have been using it like reality t.v show. Rodent Big Brother!
