I was using the split cage method to introducing my newst gerbil, Muadib, into the clan. I sat and watched Eek and Wurrble's attempts to get into the other half of the cage for several hours, but they couldn't get through. I went to bed assured Muadib was safe. Sadly though, one of the gerbils chewed a hole through a part of the cage divider. I came in time to see two gerbils fighting in the split cage. I quickly got rid of the split and seperated the Muadib into her own seperate cage. I thought she was unharmed, despite being a ilttle distressed, but after watching her for a moment I noticed a toe on one of her back feet was bleeding. Upon closer inspection, it's easy to see that the claw is pulled back at a higher angle than the others, and it is indeed bloody. I assume her toe is broken. I'm not going to try and reintroduce Muadib into the clan since I don't know how long they were fighting last night, but I'm concerned about infection. What can I do to ward it off, or at least treat her toe?

Try bathing it in lightly salted water to clean it up and to help healing.
