I've got a gerb (Lil) that's started making weird sounds. Basically, it sounds like a cross between wheezing and someone sniffing at something. It's really faint, so it's not like it's something urgent or serious. I only happened to notice it because my apartment is really quiet and because I was doing my regular gerbil health check-up (something that I started after Max's teeth got messed up and I didn't notice it for a while ) Weirdest thing: teeth grinding. Like, looks like she's chewing something really quickly. Her teeth are a-okay. Thoughts on gerbil wheezing? Advice?

Other than being allergic to something? Do gerbils get colds?

This morning she has porphrin on her nose, and since she's always been prone to allergies, I guess it's that? Nothing has changed, though. Someone new is moving in downstairs, so I can't hear anything due to the banging (so loud ) What I'll probably do is get some corncob bedding and change out half of the litter today and the rest in a few days, see if that helps. Unless anyone has any other ideas.

Is her nose red at all? I would just try to put in the most dust free bedding you can find... but not something that she hasnt already ben exposed to at one point or another... (just so that doesnt trigger any other kind of possible allergic reaction)
Just so what your doing in keeping a good watch on her. If she is not exibiting any other signs of sickness then she should be fine. But with her history of having a rough life this could be something that is is from that. (Bad living conditions, ect.) before you guys ever had her.
Keep us posted!

No worse, at least. Heck, even I have allergies this week What pollen! Do gerbils get seasonal allergies like us?
