Hi
Every time I cook squash, I scoop the seeds out and throw them away. But I'm pretty sure the small furry members of our family would squeak loudly if they knew I was doing that. Are all types of squash seeds safe for gerbils eg pumpkin, butternut, acorn? Do I need to do anything to prepare them for the gerbils or are they OK to give straight away?
Thanks.

Yes, all types of squash seeds are safe for gerbils. I'm currently giving mine butternut squash seeds.
I scoop out the seeds and put them in water to wash off most of the pulp. After a couple of hours I spread them out on greaseproof paper and put them in the airing cupboard (on top of a radiator would probably also work) to dry out.
You can also give them to the gerbils straight away, but obviously they need to be dry for storage.

I guessed that was the case but wanted to check first. Thanks
