Hi everyone, I just noticed that one of my female gerbils looks like the hair on her cheek is wet, and she looks to have a little bit of blood on her face. My first thought was of a possible declan, mainly because female trios of gerbils are basically unheard of.... That being said, they don't seem to be fighting at the moment, and none of the others looks as if they have any other injuries.... I am wondering though if it could be an abscess that popped in her cheek, just due to the fact that there isn't really much blood and she is still eating and everything... Not sure of where to go from here, any advice would be welcome...
Thanks

Did you ever get to the bottom of what this could have been/is your gerbil doing okay now? We've had two gerbils with little growths that they've managed to scratch at and draw blood (small amounts at points and surprisingly large amounts at others), so there's the chance it was something similar. I'd imagine if it had been a declan you would have seen some behaviour change - often one gerbil starting to try and hide from the others/behave more nervously/erratically. I'd keep a watch out for this, just in case. Hope all's going well though now.
