Are you on Facebook? I'm in a facebook group called "Gerbil Friends:Breeding, Showing, and Companions". It's not the most informational group but I have seen two posts in the last week or so of people looking to adopt gerbil in Florida. Might be worth having a conversation with them, just make sure to ask them lots of questions so you know they are going somewhere safe. There is also a member of that group, Jo Kelley, who operates a small animal transport service, she drives all over the country, but she has a particular schedule and route. So if you have someone further away that wants your pups she might be able to transport them if they are on her route. She has her own page called BWC Gerbils & Small Animal Transport.

I deleted my FB will have to get an alias account. I can drive distances also. btw im pretty sure the pied grey and b&w striped one are the only 2 males but tbh Id really like to keep the grey one >_<. Well, there isn't a known long hair gene that I know of - but that doesn't mean that it can't or hasn't cropped up before. Perhaps wait for Shooting Star to comment here for anytihng 'being worked on'. However, gerbils who produce more oil in their coats and who haven't given themselves a good sand bath tend to look like their hair is 'longer' as it starts to stick together a bit and isn't a floofy as it usually is. So firstly - I would give all your guys here a good long time to sand themselves up with a few baths over the next week or so - and then we can see if they genuinely DO have longer than usual fur - which would be awesome of course!!!

There is actually a rex gene that gives gerbils a little fluffier, curlier coats. They also usually have very curly whiskers.
Like betty said, I think those two just need a sand bath!

Cute gerbils anyway , very similar colour to my Avon, but stronger contrast.

Well sadly my last pair of males, Scooter and Shyster, had died after I gave them sand baths 😠It was Kaytee volcano dust. I should have know better. Would beach sand be safer? I realy think that the father and his look alike son has longer fur than normal. The son is getting very fluffy. He seems to have longer fur than the dad. The dads brother the white runt also had really long wavy fur. Scooter also had quite long fur. Muffins agouti type fur is not quite as long

Oh no - what a terrible thing to happen! Maybe there was something wrong with the batch of it - as I think quite a lot of people use the volcanic ash for sand baths? Not sure if it coincided with any thread on here or FB at the time?
And yes, commerically-sold beach and play sand (usually baked dry in the oven) seems to be very common these days and so far has no associated short-term health issues that have been discussed online that I have seen - so if you were going to try something new for them, that would be a good start.
As for the longer hair - like I said - it would be great if they did have longer coats as this would be something potentially new - but I am not really sure how you would go about checking this for them? Has anyone every actually measured shed gerbil hair? Can't wait to see if they still look long-haired after their baths - and whether you can find any shed hairs from their coat during their next moult?
I only have rex-coated now - so my measurements wouldn't necessarily be of any use as a comparison?

I would like a video of anyone trying to accurately measure their gerbil's hair length!
