Good to know we are using scientific fact on our discussions too. I think it makes for a much better learning experience for everyone.

Sorry, I didn't mean to ask how it was going and then disappear. I've been hectic with deadlines, and now having to sort my brothers house out ready for the removals tomorrow whilst he's out of the country. I'm sorry to hear that Chicken has gained weight rather than lost it, however it is good that he has plateaued. I'm sure I read somewhere that male gerbils can be up to 120g. I might have to go looking for it to see where it was I read it as it was when Bubbles gained lots of weight.
Max isn't really losing weight either. Although I've decided to stick with our food and cut down on the treats. I'm just not so sure my daughter is listening. Goodness only knows what weight he will be when I get home again! I hope it goes better going back to your previous food.

Look no further - I have had males up to 120g - they didn't look 'fat' (there are images of 'fat' gerbils though where they gain a sort of neck hump just behind their ears).
They naturally plateaued there and came back down below the 100g mark as they got old.

tanzanyte sounds like you’ve got a lot going on. Couple years ago I had to move and I had to fly out before the moving company could pick up my boxes, so I left everything at my parents house for the movers to pick up. My parents took the opportunity to pack a bunch of small foam penguins randomly in my boxes, and also gave the movers a 5 ft tall decorative wooden gold lion. betty yeah it wasn’t how much chicken weighed that concerned me, but how quickly he gained the weight.

Yes, sorry, I was refering to the comment above mine saying they were going to look somewhere for top weights for gerbils as they couldn't remember where they had seen it - so I was just saving them the bother.
Obviously any uneven and rapid weight gain is a concern, but just generally gaining weight evenly to that weight probably isn't.

My boys were nudging close to 100g last I weighed them (about 2 weeks ago, so I'll be doing it soon), weird thing is, sometimes Blake looks fat, other times not. Avon never looks fat and he's a few grams heavier normally.

Ah, weird that Avon never looks fat, but I do notice that chicken sometimes looks pretty pudgy and other times not depending on how he holds himself.

My heaviest boy, Sulo, weighed 133 g and had a long, healthy life... Some guys are just big guys As long as there is no uncontrollable weight gain, everything should be fine. I like manually checking my gerbils for lumps every few weeks, just in case.

Wow! He was a heavy weight! How old did he live to?

Almost three years. He did deteriorate badly in his final month, but until then he was the biggest gerbil I've ever seen. Here is one of my favorite photos of him (forgive the red nose, he was having allergies at the time):

I'm intrigued by the foam penguins, it must've been very amusing to find them. I should have thought of doing something similar, but we were so crazy busy I never considered it. I find it funny how gerbils can look big one day and seem ok the next. Mark do you think it's the colouring that makes the difference between Blake and Avon? Pepsi looks a lot skinnier than Max but there isn't so much difference between their weights these days.

Interesting point, is Pepsi darker than Max? Btw, I just weighed the boys last night, and now I'm getting concerned. They're 10 mths old. Here is the more recent weight data. (UK date format ) Avon ... date .... Blake 81g ... 24/11/20 .. 84g 81g ... 14/12/20 .. 83g 93g ... 12/01/21 .. 93g 93g ... 3/02/21 ... 92g 94g ... 26/02/21 .. 91g 98g ... 15/03/21 .. 95g 107g .. 6/04/21 ... 102g Levelled off about the end of Feb, then recently shot up! Not beyond 120g yet, but getting there. Should I be concerned and reduce their feeding? Currently 20g/day for them both, plus 3 (sometimes 2) treats per day each (e.g today they had 1 sunflower seed, 1 goji berry and 1 mealworm). Or are they still not at an age where their weight should level off?

I seem to be unable to display it without adding it to a different online location. Sorry... Guess I'll just make him my profile picture then

Err, you could just post a link here The forum is more picky as to which sites work on displaying photos here, I know Imgur does, but it isn't the only one. Google photos doesn't work though.
