I recently commented on a thread on this forum about gerbil lifespan. I was curious what the average lifespan of peoples gerbils on the forum were. It would be great if people could leave the age their gerbils lived! I will leave this poll open forever so people can continue to contribute to it.
Note: 6+ years is uncommon but I included it since the oldest gerbil ever was 8 years old.

This is a really good idea.
Whilst my most recent rescue gerbil lived to 3, my previous rescue gerbil lived to 2 and two other gerbils I had didn’t make it to 1 but they both had underlying health conditions from birth and I had adopted one of them so can’t be clear what her life was like before she got to me.

I love that you have set this up. Its going to be interesting to see the results. All of mine have always been in the 2-3 year group. Although there are gerbils with longer life spans, I feel like the claims that gerbils live 4 or 5 years is a little misleading for most people. I think some realistic info based on group data will provide some better expectations for gerbil owners.

I put 2 because that is the answer to the survey question. My most recent gerbil was 2 years old when she passed, and a young 2 at that. But most of my gerbils have been 3 years old at death. I've only had one make it to 4 and he's still alive (also my first gerbil from a breeder).

My most recent pair of females died at 2 years 11 months and 3 years 1 month (so both 3 years basically).
A few years before that I had a male live to about 4.5 but I can't remember how long my other gerbils lived.

My previous gerbil (from the 80s!), lived between 3-4 yrs, likely ~3.5, so I chose 3. It would be useful if the poll was open indefinitely so more people can add their data, and others can give later additions. Is that possible mygerbilprince?

Great idea mygerbilprince. I am amazed that there has been an 8 year old gerbil recorded - wouldn't it be amazing if that could be their average lifespan. Bubbles was 3 and Vanilla was 3 years 2 months and it still didn't feel like we had them long enough, although I know I should be grateful that they made it to 3. I agree Mark, it would definitely be good if there was an option for a permanent thread and if it could be pinned as well

And permanent poll would be handy too.

Just one question, how do I do that?

Not a foggiest! Lol, can you edit the poll? (I've never done one, so I don't know what options there are).

Unfortunately, I had to remove the poll and add a new one because it wasn't letting me edit the poll. So we will just have to start fresh. Sorry!

It's a shame we can't select the same answer twice. Unless I'm doing something wrong? I'm having a bad morning so it wouldn't surprise me. I just figured it may skew the results slightly if you can select up to 3 answers and other peoples last 3 gerbils have died at 2, 3 and 4, but someone else has had 3 that all died at 3.
