I posted last week about my gerbil Cookie as she had injured her front leg in a fall. Thankfully she is recovered and moving around fine. What we have noticed in the past few days is that she is drinking more water than we’ve noticed before, and in the past few days we’ve noticed her urine smells stronger too (not a strong today) Could this just be linked to the recovery from her injury or could it be something more serious. Googling hadn’t really helped.

I would call the surgery and ask to speak to your vet as part of the follow up.
It could just be a symptom of the anaesthesia or other medications used during the treatment - or it could be a sign of something common after surgery. Always worth checking with an expert while they still 'owe' you so to speak.
Generally speaking those symptoms could be linked to a kidney issue or something that affects the kidney process - and this could have been affected/exacerbated by the medications for surgery - and may well be treatable with another drug.
However, this is all speculation - so see what your vets say. They always want a good outcome from surgeries, so hopefully they can work through this with you.

She seems so much better now. I think we may have been giving her too many pumpkin seeds as her urine smelled quite strong and since we’ve stopped with those she is much better. I spoke to the vet who said excessive thirst can just be part of the recovery and if it lasts a couple of weeks that would be a concern. She seems back to her usual self now which is great! 😊

Great update - reassuring to hear about that possibility from the vet too.
Not sure how the pumkins seeds could have been a part of it - but if stopping them appears to help then great. How many were you giving them - and were they shelled (white) or shucked (green). And I assume they weren't salted at all?

Green pumpkin seeds and not salted, but it does seem to have made a difference. I’ve also bought vitamin drops for the water to help aid recovery.

It's best to make sure you have 2 water bottles if using vitamin drops smp1977 If you put it in their only water source and they don't like it then they will go without water, so it's always a good idea to have one with plain water and one with the vitamin drops.
