Hello! These days I’m finding it hard to keep a wheel and water bottles in the gerbil tank. They keep on burying everything including the water bottles which makes their bedding all wet. So I’m looking into getting a tank topper just to put the wheel and water bottles up there. Do you guys know how to build a tank topper? Or where I can buy one? Thanks!

I have the You & Me 10 gallon topper from PetCo. I think that one was $30 but I think you have to be in the Us to get it.

Hmmm. That’s a thought! I could probably cut a hole in my tank lid right now and place the topper on top! Thanks!

That’s what I did. I used wire cutters to cut a square the size of the opening and then attached it with some mini zip ties. I cut the ties and take the topper off to clean any food or poop that gets stuck every few weeks.

Soon I am going to try to make one from a birdcage.

I just cut the square bigger than the hole on the topper so when they go down the bendy bridge they don’t cut themselves.

Ok, so I got the tank topper and it’s great! I just cut a hole in the tank lid and zip tied the topper to it! I love how I don’t have to worry about the water bottles getting submerged!

It looks great. Are you going to leave the floor just mesh and keep the ladder? I know that gerbils have harder foot pads than hamsters but I always like the keep the mesh part covered and instead of the ladder going to the tank I replaced it with the Niteangel long bendy bridge since it has hooks and then bent it like a staircase.

I’m going to make a wooden base to put on the mesh, I’m worried that the wire will hurt their paws.
