thanks, he is deeply missed and i'm in shock. I did feel very upset they could not help me, i thought vets could help with PTS even if they don't treat them, so left feeling helpless, i should've got angry but as they are the only vet i can get to that treats gerbils i'm stuck having to stay calm. They are expensive too and they never have put small animals first even though they have vets that treat them. the other vet is a newer vet and only see cats/dogs so guess they can't do the dosage and remains. Does anyone know if there is a good website about ear tumours that may help me understand how this happened and why? I need answers to feel a bit better that i couldn't have done anymore for him. i need to call to cancel my appt. but want to make sure my other boys' don't need a visit, Kirby got out of his small carrier last night and i was worried he could've injured himself but seems like all is well, acting and being normal, although i hurt my knee bending to try to catch him, he's fast even at almost 3!

Lol, not at the knee! But the fast grandad gerbil! Glad he's doing well . I don't know about ear tumour website I'm afraid, sounds like lots of Googling will help! (I did a little when I saw aural cholesteotoma mentioned, plenty of hits there!). Maybe angry would be going too far, but perhaps complain/enquire why they don't put small pets to sleep, when you're feeling up to it.

Kirby is very well, which is good, i cleaned out Theos' home well and now he has a bigger aquarium, just put him in it before i got on here and will see how he likes it, so that is the only thing that is good, been trying to find a bigger used one around me without any luck. I did look at a bunch but will see when i have some extra time on here about the ear issue.

Oh Catnut, I'm so sorry.
Regarding the vets, that is just unforgivable. I don't think I'd have been in a state to have a go at the time, and like you said, you'd like to stay on their good side if that's your only option. I would however feel like emailing the practice and asking if this is normal procedure to turn a sick animal away when you needed them put to sleep.
I know we all have a tendency to blame ourselves when these things happen, but I don't think there is anything more that you could have done. You kept him as comfortable as possible and had arranged a vets appointment. None of it is your fault so please be gentle on yourself. Unfortunately I haven't really found much in the way of info on aural cholosteatoma. It may be worth us making up a thread with data such as age, colouring, bedding used etc to see if there is any link. Or we could always add this info to Mark's thread regarding declans as I think we were putting quite a bit of info in that.

If you mean the survey thread I'd rather it didn't go in their as it's not directly related, and the info would probably get buried. A new thread about it is a good idea though .

thanks, Tanzanyte, i will email them soon about what happened but i'm sure most vets that are closing wouldn't take any animal, it's more the way she said it that upset me. I didn't have many options due to not driving and no one to drive me to a vet further away so i felt stuck to help him. She also said she knew of a vet in another area and to take transit- it was too far for me to go-well over an hour by bus at least and esp. not with a sick pet in the heat, on a bus to an area i don't know, during covid, was abit much for her to suggest! i had taken him upstairs to feed him but he was growing worse so knew he was at the end, he did try to eat just before but couldn't when i was downstairs. i don't blame myself but do wonder if he hurt himself some way, he does jump up and can flip at times but doubt that would've injured his brain. If i need to take one of my other pets to a vet, i will ask about aural chlosteatomas and see if they have any info. about it. Sorry to hear your Bubbles also had one.
