That’s so weird! I’ve never seen a gerbil do that! He looks like a very happy gerbil!

What a great video! Thanks for sharing.
How do you like that playpen? Does he try to chew out at all?

Every evening we have ‘floor time’ wherein I try to read while Scooby leaps about, chews on things, and climbs all over my chair (and me!) in search of adventure. Or treats. He’s quite a little character, and I’m enjoying his company. We've been using it for a couple months now, and the playpen has worked well to date. At some point in the evening, he usually begins to scratch (and occasionally bite!) at the pen wall. I discourage him, and so far, no damage. Left alone, I expect he'd eventually scratch and chew his way out.

Strangely enough when I bought my 2 home yesterday they had a look around and both started doing this and wondering what it meant. Glad they're not the only ones who do it!

That’s so cute🥰 I’ve only ever seen guinea pigs popcorn, not a gerbil lol. Where is the playpen from?

just saw this today, not sure what it means but it could be happiness with being out of his home?! i see he is scratching but sometimes gerbils do that but if it's often it could mean a skin issue. Glad Scooby is doing well alone and he gets out of his home each evening. I lost my Theo to a stroke (i think)and miss him terribly but still have my Kirby and Tristan.

Hi angel, I bought the playpen online quite a while ago. I'm sorry I don't remember where. It's 6 panels that fold up flat. It's about 4 feet in diameter when unfolded. Occasionally, Scooby scratches or chews at it, so I have to keep an eye on him. Also, if I put something tallish too near the side, I'm sure he could use it to jump out. The sides are about 16 inches tall. Luckily, he can't quite jump out from a standing start.

Catnut, So sorry to hear about Theo. I'm sure you gave him a good life while he was with you. These wee critters certainly can wend their way into one's life. Re: Scooby He rarely scratches (maybe once or twice in the hour he's out), and his fur looks good, so I think he's doing OK in that regard. The happy dance is him "popcorning" because he's excited to be out for floor time, possibly because that's when he gets training treats. 😄
