Just double checking!!!! I want to build my topper hopefully before I’m 92 (it’s taking awhile to get started..) ! Would aspen wood or poplar from Home Depot be safe?

Both woods would be safe just make sure it’s untreated and that it’s a solid piece of wood and doesn’t have any layers. I made that mistake when making my platforms and I bought plywood and had to go back and buy a solid piece of wood. I used poplar wood but aspen is also safe.

As in, don't use plywood or chipboard (I've no idea if US terms are different ), the glue is the problem with them. Solid pine is also fine to use for platforms etc (not cedar though), as long as it doesn't have resin oozing from it.
