I got the wood for my platforms tomorrow and I ended up getting poplar wood. I would prefer it to be a darker color but I wasn’t sure if there was something I could stain it with. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure if this would work, so I'd wait for a couple of other answers, but you could try mixing a dark brown food colouring with some non-toxic glue, and spreading it on. It's only an idea though.

I know that you can use cool-aid to dye wood, but I'm not sure about making it brown. Food coloring mixed with water and you could just leave it to soak might also work.

Any water-based acrylic paint that is also okay for childrens toys is a-okay for gerbs. Childrens toy paint has to be safe for them to mouth ond drool on. Gerbs have, so far, survived nibbling it off.
