Betty is both a Helper and a Mod; since Helper is a custom group it appears to be taking precedence. I wasn't sure exactly what permissions went with the Helper role, so I didn't remove her from that group. Markpd if you want to look into that and remove the Helper title if it's superfluous, that will give you some experience with changing member groups. Basically I made Markpd a Global Mod so that he has the power to add/remove mods when admins aren't around.

I like being a helper as i don't have a lot of time for the forum as i do other things on the net and only have a certain amt. of time each day on my computer. I try to help when i see something i know enough about or have dealt with it with my gerbils, so it makes me feel useful esp. with covid and not getting out as much as i used to.

catnut No probs, it was more asking you for suggestions as to who you'd like to have as new mods, but we've been picked now anyway , hope you're cool with the choices. Markpd I think 3 mods are enough As your first mod duty, could you please move this thread to the healthcare section? Fair enough, and done Betty is both a Helper and a Mod; since Helper is a custom group it appears to be taking precedence. Cool, and thanks for sorting it out I'll look into the helper title thing, just I think people need to know she is a mod, although having a stealth mod could be handy! heheh

Markpd how do you move threads? In the mod board it said that regular moderators could move them, I just can't figure out how.

I need to read up, but in the meantime I wonder if catnut and/or betty can tell me what the criteria is for accepting new members? Is it just checking the email and IPs aren't known spammers etc?

Hello - and this is all very exciting! I took a peek yesterday after work but there was too much going on to start trying things out.
Anyway, today is the day for a good rummage!
I was thinking of starting a message with us new upgraders so we can find out how the behind the scenes works together because as a 'helper' there seemed to be VERY limited actions I could perform. I was actually wondering whether it just allowed access to a small chat group rather than any real forum actions and so can't see any reason why that heading isn't superceded by the 'global moderator' one anyway? I am not sure why mods couldn't/wouldn't have access to anything the helpers were doing. Strange. Starting at the basics seems the best plan as (like you ask above) there were only two things I would do on that 'new members' screen really. We did chat a bit about it when we first started doing it, but we have been lucky that this forum has almost never attracted members who have spammed - just the odd guest (which can't be stopped by this process anyway).
I will be very happy to do more now - including perhaps chatting with active mods in other proboard groups already in existance to see how they are using the system to its best advantage?

...there were only two things I would do on that 'new members' screen really.Which was?? The IP and email check? Btw, if I'd known about the global mod option, I would've asked Daniel to switch you to that, and me as a regular mod, seeing as you were here way before me! But perhaps I can upgrade you to a global mod? If more than 1 can be had?? [edit] It appears to be yes and yes to those questions . Ok for an upgrade to a global mod betty ? And yea a little message group for us newbie mods could be handy. Btw, I got rid of the 'darn' filter! lol

Markpd, could you please put the filter back? I appreciate respectful, clean language. Thank you.

Markpd I believe that particular word is considered more offensive in some other countries such as the US than it is in the UK, and this forum does have a wide audience. I think Mygerbiliscute has a point.
