I recently upgraded my gerbils tank to a 75 gallon tank and now I have no idea what to do with their old tank. I'm thinking of doing something like this with the two tanks but without the water so my gerbils can have some extra space but I'm wondering if anyone else has done this before and knows how well this would work. youtu.be/1tmsHa5spqc

Unfortunately with gerbils this isn't a good idea, at least not with permanent access. This would be creating a separate territory and one gerbil could stake a claim to it, possibly causing fights and possibly leading onto a declan. Also perspex would get chewed, even if the former wasn't an issue (so you would have to use glass, or protect the edge of the perspex). Btw, useful youtuber, thanks , going to watch the video about building aquariums!
People have had joined tanks before (a german website shows an elaborate multiple linked tanks setup. Check out an old thread by me (of a similar name) if you want a link to that), but you simply don't know beforehand whether or not it could cause declanning issues with your gerbils. However you could have it as a separate playpen or sandpen etc, for temporary supervised access .
