I don't know how he did it, but I woke up this morning to find that both my gerbs were running around on the same side of the tank. Now what? I don't have a (functional) divider anymore. No signs of violence. I used molding wire mesh because it seemed strong enough and tight knit so that they couldn't get their teeth on it. Apparently they could. should I leave them in separate tanks until I make another divider? What should I make it out of???

Are they male or female? How old? If it were me, as long as I have time to watch them closely for the day, I'd probably leave them be and see how it goes. If you are seeing tension or squabbles, or they are not sleeping together when they both fall asleep, I'd put them in separate tanks until you can make a new, better divider.
