I recenlty got a pair of gerbils from a pet shop. They where normal for the first week but then one started hopping on the other and (as I think) mating. Now, one got a big belly, eats more, drinks more, sleeps more and he had build a nest. In the pet shop they told me that they are male siblings. If they are in fact siblings, will pups be healthy? There are no sings of genetic mutations (no tail kink, no fat tail, no seizures so far).

Hello, Fortunately gerbils are relatively resistant to the effects of inbreeding and pups whose parents are siblings are not really much more likely to have anything wrong that if their parents were unrelated. To clarify their sexes, see if they look the same underneath. There are some photos here to guide you: gerbilforum.proboards.com/thread/23303/gerbil?. If they are opposite sexes, the female is likely to be pregnant so you should separate them. Gerbils mate immediately after giving birth which means by the time one litter has been born, another is on the way. If you can separate them before the first litter is born you can avoid a second.
