I get a cheese and onion one, and a salt and vinegar one, and I eat them in the same go

So I have (with a LOT of help from LilyandDaisy) calculated a seed mix to make. I haven't got gerbils yet. The mix contains (per 100g) 1g of poppy seeds and 8g of chia seeds. But I was reading the list of safe and unsafe foods, and it said that poppy seeds and chia seeds should only be fed in small amounts. I'm not so concerned about the poppy seeds but I think chia seeds sounds like a lot? Can someone please help?

Argh - how did we miss this specific thread - was your question answered elsewhere already pea? I would assume that that small amount of poppy seeds would be fine - but I was still not overly sure on what was discussed about the chai? I think the initial query was that it swelled up immensly when wet, but then another memeber said that because the gerbils shucked/de-shelled it - this stopped it swelling up. But I genuinely can't remember the end result of that. 8% of the diet being this seed alone could be an issue if it was unsafe - but I don't know off hand the full nutrition of it myself as to whether it was so unique a source that it was worth using instead of another suitable nutrient source.

I think on the chia seeds it was left that we weren't sure whether or not gerbils de-shelled them but as gerbils will be eating them one at a day, the risk is probably low.
However now that I think about it, some gerbils (like my late Lily) carry small seeds in their mouths, so I don't know whether that could be a risk?
It's probably not a clear cut issue so I suppose each individual has to do what they feel comfortable with. Nothing is without risk.
