Fitch is a paper pulp type bedding (similar to Carefresh) available in the UK. I have been using it for a year or so.
Fitch is exceptionally low in dust and fairly soft (softer than Carefresh but not as soft as Kaytee Clean & Cozy). When combined with hay it supports burrows well. Being paper and so low in dust, it is hypoallergenic which is the main reason I use it. Some paper pulp bedding have an odd smell but Fitch is almost odourless. It has large pieces which are less likely to be kicked out of a topper than wood shavings or hemp, so it's a tidy bedding.
The only disadvantage for me is the price. It's around £40 for 20kg which is about double the price of alternatives such as wood shavings, Aubiose, Finacard etc. I now mix it with Finacard and teabag bedding, as well as hay, to lower the cost a little.
In conclusion, I find Fitch an ideal bedding for my gerbils, I just wish it were a little cheaper.

Interesting about the smell, I had a little Carefresh (IIRC) given to me by my sister. That bedding smelt horrible! Not sure what, like some nasty cleaning agent.

Wow - I was thinking of trying Fitch instead of my cardboard substrate - but I hadn't got round to comparing it weight for weight.
That is quite a cost there - but as you say - worth it when in combination with other substrates.
How large in dimensions is a bale, roughly?

Recently I've been buying the packs of 5x 4kg bags. Each 4kg bag is about the size of a shoebox. It's a bit more expensive buying it this way but much easier to store.
I think the 20kg bags were about 90cm long.

Wow - so it is heavy stuff when packed - compacted well.
My econest isn't compacted - and is about 2-3 shoeboxes in size and only 3.2kg a bag - but depending where you buy mine (now*) it ranges from between £30pkg to £45pkg.
*until very recently it used to be only £23pkg
