1/4 cup oats 1 tsp chia (optional) 1/8 cup carrot 1/8 cup apple 1/8 cup banana 1/4 cup gerbil food 1/4 cup water (you might have to add a little bit more for your blender to effectively, well, blend).
If you have a blender, blend everything lightly so that there are still little seeds and things left. If not, grate the wet ingredients to make a mush. Make the gerbil food a little more 'floury' by putting it in a tied bag and beating it with a meat tenderizer/rock (I forgot to mention that the gerbil food is the binder for the other ingredients). Mix thoroughly (don't forget the water.) Heat oven to 335 degrees fahrenheit (168 degrees celsius) and use a 1/2 tsp to divide (pack firmly) into small portions. bake for 30-40 minutes. this makes around 40 portions. the outside will be crunchy (maybe just a tad burnt) and the inside will still be soft, but my gerbils love them, even the one that hates vegetables and fruits (because of the wetness). I freeze these and revive them in a toaster oven. Don't try to microwave unless your gerbils enjoy porridge.
I've never tried to see if they are shelf-stable. If i've posted this before... I'm sorry. Also, if you poke a bunch of holes with a pencil into a piece of cardboard, you can stick seeds in there and watch the gerbils wrench them out.

Nice , I think we should have a sticky thread as a repository for these recipes, otherwise they just eventually get buried by other threads.
