One thing that's bugged me about the dedicated FAQ section (even after moving it to it's current place) is the splitting of the information between 2 different places, e.g going to Gerbils> Gerbil FAQ> Housing and also having Gerbils> Housing, accessories(etc) in the main forum section.
We can't really move all the stickies out of the FAQ to the relevant sections we have now, otherwise they'd take up a large chunk of space where 'live' threads are. So how about moving each section of the FAQ to a new (relevant) sub section of the main form sections. So e.g, the Housing, accessories (etc) section, as well as having the tank (etc) exchange sub section, it would also have the Housing FAQ in it. Or would that make the FAQs less visible and more likely to be missed?
Btw, have people noticed the tank exchange subsection within the housing section? And other subsections?
And what about the FAQ where it is now?
Would like to here from old and new members alike, (and staff too of course! ).
This subject is also related to this question about sticky thread numbers in the Housing section.

Yes, I see what you mean about having things split between the FAQ section and the main sections.
I think an FAQ + other useful threads subsection within each board is probably a good solution. Another option is to have a single pinned thread within each section which answers common questions and also links to important threads.

Double post it?, yea that would give a better chance of it being seen, although that would mean twice the work when they need updating or adding too.
As for a pinned thread in each section with a link to important threads, we have that already linking to each relevant FAQ, although it doesn't link to other important threads as they are pinned currently. Hmm, unpinning them though would make them much less visible...

Yes, it might be a bit more work - but the single post with thread links in it sounds smaller and neater.
That way it can be stuck on the top of each section without taking up more than one line above live/new threads and can contain as much or as little as it needs without intruding.
Not sure if it should only link to single threads (one per click) or whether it can link to a whole page of threads - more like a shortcut to the entire FAQs? Have you had a tinker with all the alternatives?

Well, linking to the FAQs has already been sorted, as for linking to important threads (as in the current pinned ones), it would only be possible to link to each thread, unless we created a sub section for them. But then we're back to the conundrum of them being not so visible. Hmm...
No one else have any thoughts?

Still would like input from more people on this. Yes, I see what you mean about having things split between the FAQ section and the main sections. I think an FAQ + other useful threads subsection within each board is probably a good solution. Another option is to have a single pinned thread within each section which answers common questions and also links to important threads. I see I misunderstood you on my original reply, you meant moving the FAQs to the relevant subsections (as I suggested) + important/useful stickied threads, not duplicating the FAQ like I thought you meant originally. Yea I'm up for that, the only trouble is when going to our home section it would seem to virtually disappear (e.g look at how small the text is for the Tank, Cage, Accessories Exchange sub-section). It's a pity the forum software doesn't show sub-sections more visibly.... I can't see how to atm.
