Title says most of the idea of course!
I got my boys about a month or two ago, in a homemade bin cage with a cheap topper, I noticed a week or so ago that they were chewing the plastic part of the lid! Obviously I didn't want them ingesting that, so I kept an eye out, they've been doing some stereotypic digging along the walls of tunnels that line the sides, and along the bottom of the bin, so I wanted to go with an upgrade.
The bin is about 30 US gals, so I decided to keep an eye for a cheap 50-75 tank. Bigger is better right, haha? Well I found a 55 for 50 CAD ! It was a steal, so naturally I snatched the thing up. Well, now I have a huge tank in my room that I have little to no idea how to organize! There's no lid yet, so the full 21 inch height isn't accessible, or won't be yet, as I don't want them jumping obviously.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I figure I'd pile half to two thirds with high bedding/burrows and such, then use the other quarter, third for the more accessibility needed things like their wheel, food, water, sand box for bathroom purposes... (They don't like to bathe in it! Only kick the sand out and then eliminate on it, which works for me, makes spot cleaning easier )
They're only a pair of brothers and I wouldn't want to introduce any babies and risk fights, so it's lots of room to accommodate for them! I have read that declanning is something to keep an eye for, but most of what I've seen suggests that's unfounded, so I figured they'd be fine in a tank that big. I do like to interact with them sometimes, so ideas on how to create a place to train them to go if they'd like attention would be great! Right now, they come to the door of the cage section and stare at me haha They're still in their bin, as this tank is *filthy* and needs a good hose down first, so I'm asking before I get started!
