This is a high-calorie, vitamin-enriched syrup designed for sick or recovering animals. I originally bought it when my gerbil Lily had heart failure and was struggling to keep weight on, and have since used it for rodents with tooth issues and sick rodents who needed extra calories. I successfully fattened up a hamster who came to me incredibly thin with this stuff (plus cheese). It's particularly valuable with mouth/tooth issues as sometimes rodents can't even eat soft foods if they can't chew, but they can just lick this stuff up. It smells a bit like chocolate and rodents tend to find it highly palatable once they get used to it, but they can initially be put off by the sticky texture. It may even be worthwhile getting your rodents used to this while they are healthy so you have it as an option when they get sick, but I wouldn't give this too regularly to rodents who don't need it as it's so high in calories and sugar. It's shelf-stable and keeps a long time once opened. I would never be without this now. It's an essential part of my rodent first aid kit and I highly recommend it. www.viovet.co.uk/VetCal-Pro-Gel-High-Calorie-Supplement/c17983/

Interesting, not come across this one before, think I need to keep one of these in stock!
Btw, how long is the expiry date, and once opened, how long is it good for?

I can't find any dates on my tube (I think they were on the outer box which I no longer have) but it's not the sort of thing that would go off. I suppose the texture might change or the oils might start to separate after a long time. My tube has been open for a year now and still looks fine. Unopened, I imagine it would keep years.

No worries, I'll find out soon as I've ordered one. Btw I got it slightly cheaper at vetuk.co.uk (and I already had an account with them, I also bought the Johnson cleaner from them).

I hadn't heard of that website before.
I'm so thankful for this stuff because I currently have a hamster here with a very sore tongue from a tooth spur (now filed down by the vet) and this is the only thing she will eat. Even softened pellets are too difficult for her right now.
