Thought I'd start a new thread about this so everyone here can easily find the X-rays.
These X-rays were taken the day I dropped Avon to the vets to investigate why he got so ill (see this thread for more info), but the short version is I noticed that he hadn't touched his food from the previous evening (including his treats!) and he hadn't touched his sandbath. Knowing that wasn't right I dug 1/2 the bedding to find him extremely weak and wobbly, I took him to the vets the next morning (work were good to let me out on short notice ).
Looking at the x-rays, and checking him over, the only real significant* thing he found was a stone (3rd pic, on the left), which he was pretty certain that it's in his bladder (he considered whether it was in the Kidneys, but thought it was too high for that), and thought that might well of caused him pain for a while .
Since then he's bounced right back to his vigorous self (whether due to luck, or the metacam he's now getting, or a combination of both).
(*, unrelated, he did comment that he thought there was some slight arthritis in his front elbows. Avon is 2.5 yrs old and an active runner on his wheel ).
Of note, after I asked, he said he saw no signs of arthritis in his back (in reference to the argument I had on the German gerbil forum about his then 10"/25cm wheel). For about the 1st 1.5yrs of his life he had use of a 10" wheel (which he shared with his brother until I had to separate them at a little over 1 yr old), I bought a 2nd wheel (12"/30cm) which became Avon's.
Anyway, enough chat! Here's the x-rays!
(Btw, I'm amazed about how large their front teeth actually are! Like something out of Alien! ).
