Hello!! My gerbils finally seem to be warming up to me and are eager to come investigate and nnibble my hand now! I wanted to take them out to the playpen today so they could play a bit but as soon as I put one of them in, he had a seizure. I promptly took him back to. his cage and never took the other one out at all. I want playpen time to be fun not stressful for them so is it better to just not take him out at all? Or is it something I would have to build up to? If so, how do I introduce him to the playpen without him getting scared?

I don’t bother with a playpen so I’d perhaps recommend that as gerbils can definitely have stress-related fits

I've had two gerbils have seizures like this. The first was one of my first gerbils when I was a child. I impatiently put him in the playpen on the first day I had him (not a good idea), and he had a seizure. The other was when I carried a gerbil out of the room where her enclosure was a few days after she came home. Neither gerbil ever had a second seizure and I was able to take them out of their enclosure and free roam them/put them in playpens without any problems when they were older.
In your case, I would say give it a couple of weeks for them to settle in and then try the playpen again. The seizure indicates he was probably feeling quite overwhelmed by the new environment. When you try the playpen again, I would add some familiar things from their tank and also some of their bedding so it smells somewhat familiar.
