I have never had a male not accept a female immediately until now. Usually they want them right away no intro needed. This one we have had in a split cage for weeks now and every time we introduce them he fights her! What the heck! I have triple checked that it's a male because it's such confusing behavior. Is he just broken?

Very curious, afraid I can't help you, I've replied to be sub'd to thread and see what any experienced people say. Btw, I assume you've double checked her gender too?

Oh yes they are definitely male female. The interesting thing is that they've been split caged for 2 weeks now. That's longer than I've ever had to split same sex pairs!

Blimey! Out of interest, how many same sex split intro's have you done?

We've been breeding and rehoming rescues for about a year and a half now so I'd guess we've done at least a dozen same sex adult pairings. I know female to female can take weeks but I've never had a male act like this before. Little stinker was the color we needed but I don't want to breed this personality.

I can see why you wouldn't want to breed him.
As far as I know, male to female aggression is almost unheard of so I'd suspect there's something not right about either the male or even the female, if the male is reacting to something that seems off about her.

Ooo I didn't even consider that SHE may be the issue 🤔

Would be interesting to see how she does with another male.

Have you tried her with another male yet - or him with another female - just to see if you can fathom a reason - or are you leaving the pair of them as pets now - just incase.
