I'm a Senior who's had gerbils for some decades and have discovered two helps for development of tilted head, rolling, possible ear infection or general infections.
I haven't posted here for many years but continue to have gerbils for myself and the grandkids.
We did this a bunch of days ago and Peanut is completely recovered. I wish I'd found this for several gerbils in the past.
1. Amber Naturalz product called Vibactra Plus. This is a U.S. based company that has a distributor in Canada as well (have to look it up) to ship. One ounce would last ages and very versatile product - cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, rodents. All sorts of infections for small animals. And now since we can't get fish or rodent antibiotic in stores anymore, you have to drop 100 $ and a lot more to get a vet to check out a gerbil.
I gave an unusual dose but here it is : 3 drops (shaken product) and 3 drops water (RO if possible ) in a shot glass and given by mouth as much as possible or put around the neck where they groom it off. Twice a day. Maybe three for a day or two if severe. Given for about 5 days in a row.
2. Once a day :PRIME powder - the one for birds, it's on Amazon .com and .ca and pet stores. Probiotics, enzymes and vitamins minerals. Shot glass with about ten drops water. then about 1/16 to 1/8 teaspoon or so of the Prime mixed in with the dropper. Use a tiny dish (we have those terra cotta dishes for plants we use them for bird seed and water) put a quarter teaspoon or ten of large old fashioned rolled oats spread out and drop one drop of the mix on each of the big flakes. Gerbils of course love oats. Let the stuff soak in for a couple minutes first.
Peanut is running around jumping from place to place, no head tilt, great appetite and friendly and tame like normal not lethargic and sad !
bye for now
